Thoughts on Fatherhood From 15 Celebrity Dads

Celeb dads, they’re just like us!

Many of the biggest names in music, tech, politics, sports, and Hollywood also happen to be just good ole “Dad” to their kids. These famous fathers have found ways to stay connected to their little (and not-so-little) ones, and can’t help but extoll the wonders of seeing the world through their children’s eyes.

For some of them, fatherhood has meant learning how to slow down and appreciate the little things; for others, it’s required getting more intentional about their careers, so they can maximize time with their kids. But most celebrity dads agree that fatherhood has been humbling — a reminder that their most important job in life is to care for and help raise the next generation of changemakers. Or as Prince Harry put it, “Perhaps it’s the newfound clarity I have as a father, knowing that my son will always be watching what I do, mimicking my behavior, one day maybe even following in my footsteps.” Below, we’ve rounded up 15 other heartwarming quotes about fatherhood, from some of today’s biggest names.

[Parental love] is a different kind of love. It's very pure, it's unconditional, but they haven't earned it yet. They didn't do anything, they just exist and you love them completely, but it's not built on anything other than their existence.
— John Legend

Being a father is the single greatest feeling on Earth. Not including those wonderful years I spent without a child, of course.
— Ryan Reynolds

More than anything you have to make time to be with your children. It’s something I battle a lot because of my career, because as much as it’s nice to be busy and working, ultimately children don’t raise themselves. You’ve got to be there to help them and guide them through it.
— Idris Elba

Love, respect, and hard work, honor, and discipline, all the stuff I learned [being a father]. [Zoë is] amazing, and she’s all the things that I would have hoped for. I’m [her] dad you know, but we’re friends. We’re very close. We talk about everything. We don’t hide things from each other.
— Lenny Kravitz

[Becoming a dad] made me want to work harder and get focused and do the right things, so the right things could happen for me and my kids.
— Mario Lopez

Men should always change diapers. It’s a very rewarding experience. It’s mentally cleansing. It’s like washing dishes, but imagine if the dishes were your kids, so you really love the dishes.
— Chris Martin

I finally understand Game of Thrones. I think about how I would do anything for my daughter, and also my wife. [Fatherhood] gives me this clarity of thought around every decision I make, not just professionally, but personally, and everything else. It just feels really good. It's like a higher level of consciousness.
— Alexis Ohanian (co-founder of Reddit, husband to Serena Williams)

The love I have for my wife is so intense, but nothing prepared me for the love I have for my kids. That feeling is overwhelming. The thought of them being in any trouble, any pain… I would do anything to avoid it.
— Hugh Jackman

It's a full-on assembly line… They harmonize when they cry. When one cries, two cry, then three cry. Chain reaction is a real thing at our house.
— Pharrell

Being present with your child, that’s the greatest gift that you can give to any child, your attention.
— David Beckham

I worry about the future more. When you have something or someone in your life to give the future to, I think it focuses the mind more about what you're giving them. Are you happy that you've done all you can to leave it in a good state?
— Prince William

I’ve been a parent for three weeks. What do I know? I don’t know anything, but it’s kind of part of the beauty of it, honestly. There are a lot of instincts, a lot of things that kind of kick in and switch on. It’s a beautiful experience.
— Adam Levine (shortly after the 2016 birth of his twin daughters Dusty and Gio)

I thought I'd never be that annoying person [who shares pictures of his kids], but as soon as Winnie was born, I was showing iPhone snaps to a cab driver.
— Jimmy Fallon

We pass on the values of empathy and kindness to our children by living them. We need to show our kids that you’re not strong by putting other people down — you’re strong by lifting them up. That’s our responsibility as fathers.
— Barack Obama

My kids are my greatest piece of art. If I can pump them full of amazing stuff and surround them with beautiful art and music, then I’m going to live out my life watching them. They’re already way smarter and just way better than me. God, I love it. It’s beautiful. I want it to be the greatest thing I ever do: Make good humans.
— Jason Momoa

The Great Migration of Americans Out of Dysfunctional Cities

The Great Migration of Americans Out of Dysfunctional Cities

by Doug Casey, founder, International Man Communique

The Great Migration of Americans Out of Dysfunctional Citiesleave nyc.jpg

International Man: After the outbreak of the Coria and subsequent government actions, many Americans decided to move to a new state.

For example, it's estimated that 319,020 residents fled New York state between July 2020 and July 2021, which amounted to about 1.6% of its population. It was the largest outflow of any state during this period.

What is going on here?

Doug Casey: It's quite simple and obvious: people are getting away from what they don't like.

In essence, that means taxes, regulations, corruption, street crime, and a "woke" social ambiance. These are all things that relate to government. As late as the 1950s, the local government wasn't a major factor when deciding where to live. Now it is.

Some states now have up to a 13% income tax, and some have 8 to 10% sales tax. These are huge considerations where they were once trivial. So there's a huge difference between various states regarding the costs imposed upon you by the government.

Generally speaking, the highest tax states are also the most woke and the most regulated. That's because the wokesters approve of high taxes in principle. They believe a big government is good and necessary. Furthermore, the high taxes go to promote woke policies. So high taxes and woke policies naturally reinforce each other.

The places with the most woke governments and highest taxes generally have the highest levels of welfare spending, which draws in a certain type of person. As a result, they have hundreds, or even thousands, living on the streets.

They used to be termed "bums" or "vagrants." Then you were supposed to call them "the homeless." That sounded better because it didn't imply a moral failing, just the lack of a permanent residence. Now, however, you're supposed to call them "the unhoused." This further softening seems to imply that they just don't have a house for the moment—that sounds no worse than not having a car, airplane, or perhaps a diamond ring, or maybe a pension. They're "underprivileged" and should have a home in our hearts. No moral failing there.

I prefer to call these people bums, the traditional term. But it's almost passed out of the language. It should be re-instituted. It's crazy what the progressives and the wokesters have done to the language. Their euphemisms have made words as dishonest as their policies and philosophies.

Places like New York, Baltimore, Chicago, San Fran, and scores of other liberal bastions have the worst crime because they draw in and retain the worst kind of people—those who want to take advantage of their woke policies. And they scare away people who value the opposite values—hard work, prudence, temperance, self-reliance, justice, and the other traditional virtues. The politicians in these places promise bread and circuses to the degraded hoi polloi in exchange for their votes. They draw in the worst people and scare away the best. It's a self-reinforcing type of situation that can become a death spiral. The US is no longer a democracy but a kakistocracy.

Although moving can be inconvenient, it's insane to stay rooted in a place that's degrading, with the worst conditions but the highest costs. Get a load of this article written by a liberal in "The Atlantic."

International Man: How have the policies the local politicians enacted led to these conditions?

Doug CaseyPeople who get into politics are generally narcissists. They're interested in popularity. Their priority isn't the good of society but self-aggrandizement. They don't create anything and can only take from some people and give to others. They do what's good for themselves, building their own brand names, hoping that successful manipulation of the hoi polloi will enable them to move from being a big shot in their municipality to a big shot in their county, then a big shot in their state, and finally making the big time in Washington DC.

What's going on here? Why do people support their destroyers? How is it that, of all animals, only humans install the most venal and stupid as their leaders? There must be some basic flaw in humans that, at least when they're in a large enough group, causes them to act irrationally. Why else would people support the kind of people who want to be politicians?

It doesn't matter whether they're Democrats or Republicans. Although I've got to say that in many ways, I respect the Democrats more than the Republicans. That's because the Democrats, as bent as they are, at least have a philosophical center. They actually believe in some things—even if they're bad things. The Republicans, however, don't believe in anything—except that the Democrats are just moving too far and too fast towards statism and collectivism. That makes the so-called conservatives hypocrites, allowing the so-called liberals to masquerade as the party of principle.

Neither the Democrats nor the Republicans are worth the powder it would take to blow them to hell. As H.L. Mencken correctly said, politicians are America's only native criminal class.

It's foolish and a moral, philosophical, and—usually—a practical mistake to support either of them. Both should be decried. Don't feed either Tweedledee or Tweedledum. They're the problem, not the solution.

International Man: While New York saw the largest outflow of residents, Texas and Florida were among the top recipients of new residents.

What do you think the long-term impacts will be on these states, and what are the implications?

Doug Casey: There are two possibilities.

Many of the emigrants are so shallow and thoughtless that they don't realize that it was their own views and habits that destroyed the places they want to get out of. They're likely to take many of their stupid ideas and bad habits with them because they can't change their basic psyche. They can't reform their basic worldview. Most don't think logically about cause and effect.

But some may have been mugged enough by the reality that they've changed their views. Some are ethically upright but have just been buried in a negative environment. I have a number of AnCap friends who started out as Marxists. So there's always hope…

But my guess is that most of the people moving from New York and California to places like Texas and Florida are reasonably conservative, rational people. That's why they're moving. So most of them will actually reinforce and improve the situation in their new states. So it's cause for optimism. Perhaps it will lead to the secession of some regions.

A bigger problem is that the country, as a whole, still seems to be moving more statist. The Blue people—the socialist-leaning people—have control of the State apparatus most everywhere. And once they have control of the apparatus of the State, it's very hard to take it away from them.

Worse yet, as the economy goes into a real crisis with the Greater Depression deepening over the next few years, both the Red people and the Blue people will clamor for a man on a white horse who will claim to kiss everything and make it better—if he has enough power.

International Man: Many formerly prosperous US cities have degenerated into conditions more akin to an impoverished Third World country in certain areas. This trend shows no sign of reversing and seems to be accelerating.

What is the cause of this, and where is this all headed?

Doug Casey: As I've said many times in the past, science fiction is a better predictor than any think tank of what's likely to happen.

Let me draw your attention to the Kurt Russell movies Escape from New York and Escape from LA, showing how dystopian big cities can get. And the earlier Charles Heston/ Edward G. Robinson movie, Soylent Green. Could things get that bad? Yes, they could. The more advanced civilization gets, paradoxically, the more unstable it can become if the foundations aren't sound. We discussed why the foundation is crumbling in our last two conversations (link here and here)

Look at ancient Rome. It had a million or more people at the time of Caesar Augustus. But after the collapse of the empire, the population fell to perhaps 20,000 people during the dark ages that followed. Cows and goats grazed in the forum. The peasants disassembled Rome's buildings to have something better than straw shacks to live in.

Civilizations and cities have collapsed many times in the past 5000 years. It could happen to New York, Chicago, San Francisco, or the US itself—unless they radically change their policies. But, notwithstanding the recent recall of SF's disastrous district attorney, there's no indication that they will. In fact, most jurisdictions are raising taxes so the government can "do more." Which, of course, just makes things worse for the reasons we just discussed.

Take a look at Detroit. There are 20 and 30-story office buildings downtown with market values of only a few million dollars. During the 1950s, Detroit was the fourth-largest city in the country and one of the wealthiest.

How do we turn the situation around? It's not by voting. That just transfers power from Tweedle Dee to Tweedle Dum. But that doesn't mean you should be quiet and say or do nothing. For that reason, I try to speak out whenever I hear people saying things that are commonly accepted but destructive.

In that regard, let me mention a club that I belong to here in Argentina. It's a group of American businessmen who get together for lunch every two weeks and talk about the world at large.

At our last meeting, an American/Argentine dual citizen went on about how politicians ought to say this or not say that—whatever works—to get people to vote for them. Our James Carville lookalike tells politicians how to appeal to the masses. He particularly spoke out against Javier Milei, an AnCap who—rather improbably—has a serious chance of becoming the next president because he threatens to overthrow the country's totally corrupt Peronist/Kirchnerite system.

I couldn't let that pass and commented that not only is politics itself the problem, but the worst people go into politics. And those who instruct politicos on how to manipulate the hoi polloi are the worst of all. I took the opportunity to broach the thought that the State was their enemy, and its powers to tax, regulate, and inflate the currency should be ripped out by the roots, with Agent Orange poured on the ground they grew in.

Will my words change anything? No. But I told them that these things need to be said. Otherwise, the enemy's victory is certain. We're fighting a psychological and philosophical war.

International Man: What is your advice to people considering moving to a new city, state, or country.

Doug CaseyThings will continue to deteriorate for the foreseeable future. Trends in motion tend to stay in motion, and this trend is still accelerating. Actual Jacobins and Bolsheviks will be running the US for at least another 30 months.

However, if you want to stay in the US and you live in a major city—it doesn't matter where—I would move to a rural area. People in rural areas are closer to the earth and reality. They have more traditional values and fewer bad habits. Their general worldview is more conservative. In big cities, it's always more liberal. Like tends to draw like. In cities, urban gangs may start taking over in "no go" zones.

Let me draw your attention to another seminal sci-fi movie from the early 1980s, The Warriors. You'll recall that New York seemed on the edge of collapse back then. One of the movie's subplots posited the gangs of New York uniting to take over the city and how they almost do it. It could happen.

There's every reason to move to a rural community. Costs are always much lower, while modern telecommunications, FedEx, Amazon, Walmart, and the rest of it give you all the material advantages of living in a big city with much less crime and fewer wokesters.

The only reason not to move to a small town is if you're still in your twenties or maybe thirties, unmarried, and want to be in the dating scene. Small rural towns aren't very active from that point of view. But otherwise, there's every reason to live in the countryside as opposed to the big city today.

If you're going to stay in the US, move out of the city, pick a nice small town, and beat the last-minute rush.

President Andrew Jackson and an Outrageous Crime Inflicted on the Next Generation

President Andrew Jackson and an Outrageous Crime Inflicted on the Next Generation

by Nick Giambruno, contributor, International Man Communique

Jackson and Bank.png

With over $30 trillion in debt and counting, it’s hard to believe the United States government was ever debt-free.

But it happened once—in 1835—thanks to President Andrew Jackson. He was the first and only president to pay off the national debt completely.

One biographer says the former president viewed debt as a "moral failing," a sort of "black magic."

When he became president, Jackson was determined to rid the US of its national debt. After all, debt enslaves you to your creditors.

Jackson knew that being debt-free was essential to independence. This outlook resonated with many Americans back then.

With that in mind, Jackson attacked the institutions and powerful people who promoted and enabled the federal debt. This included the banking elites and the Second Bank of the United States, the country's central bank at the time and precursor to today's insidious Federal Reserve system.

While campaigning against the evils of national debt and central banking, Jackson miraculously survived an assassination attempt when an assassin’s two pistols both misfired. Shadowy interests tied to the central bank were almost certainly behind the effort.

However, Jackson survived and went on to "End the Fed" of his days. He successfully bested the central bank—and the powerful interests behind it—and shut down the Second Bank of the United States.

He also repaid the federal debt in full, which was no easy task.

Jackson couldn't squeeze the American people with a federal income tax to repay the debt. It didn’t exist at the time and would have been unconstitutional.

He also couldn’t simply print currency to pay off the debt. Perpetuating such an insane fraud—which the Fed does on a massive scale today—likely never entered his mind.

Instead, Jackson had to rely on tax revenue from other sources, mainly import tariffs and excise taxes, to pay down the debt. He also drastically cut federal spending and frequently vetoed spending bills.

Jackson's determination worked. By January 1835, the US was debt-free for the first time.

Unfortunately, it didn't last much more than a year. After that, the US would never again be debt-free—not even close.

Revenge of the Central Bankers

After Jackson succeeded in ending the Second Bank of the United States, anything associated with a central bank became deeply unpopular with the American public. So, central bank advocates tried a new branding strategy.

Rather than call their new central bank the "Third Bank of the United States," they went for a vague and boring name. They called it "the Federal Reserve" and managed to hide it from the average person in plain sight. As a result, over 100 years since its founding, most Americans have no idea what the Federal Reserve is or what it actually does.

Ironically, Jackson's face has been on the $20 "Federal Reserve Note" since 1928. So in a sense, this symbolic move is central banking advocates giving the middle finger to one of their most steadfast opponents.

After all, the Fed is really the "Third Bank of the United States." No doubt, Jackson would have been disturbed at having his face on its fake confetti money.

In any case, most Americans today have no idea who Jackson is, what he did, or why he did it.

To the extent he is ever mentioned, the media, academia, and the rest of the establishment unjustly besmirch him as—you guessed it—a "racist."

That's exactly what the Deep State—the permanently entrenched bureaucracy—wants. It doesn't want the average citizen to understand why Jackson shut down the central bank and (temporarily) freed Americans from national debt bondage. Doing the same thing today would be a mortal threat to their power.

This is one of the reasons the establishment will try in the coming years to replace Jackson on the $20 bill with the more politically-correct Harriet Tubman… pushing Jackson further down the memory hole.

Are You Ready For The Next Gold Rush?

Are You Ready For The Next Gold Rush?

by Luke Lango, editorHypergrowth Investing

Are You Ready For The Next Gold Rush?

Don't Try To Do The Impossible

During periods of elevated market volatility – such as the one we’re seeing right now – just do one thing: Focus On The Big Picture.

The simple reality, folks, is that it is nearly impossible to predict with any great certainty what’s going to happen over the short term. Inflation could keep rising. Or it may start decelerating. The Fed may hike rates 10 times. Or they may make a U-turn in the summer. Russia may try to invade mainland Europe. Or they may stop the fighting altogether.

There’s a lot of uncertainty out there right now. So, let’s do ourselves a favor and stop trying to do the impossible in predicting how all of those risk factors will play out.

Instead, let’s do something much easier. Let’s take a deep breath. Let’s zoom out. Let’s look at the big picture. And let’s realize that while today’s macroeconomic and geopolitical risks may seem like world-enders, they are not. Just like no macroeconomic risk or geopolitical risk before them was a world-ender.

COVID-19? The world kept turning. Great Financial Crisis? The world kept turning. Dot-Com Crash? The world kept turning.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat. In the big picture, the world, the U.S. economy, the stock market, and humankind generally have a multi-century track record of trumping crisis, after crisis, after crisis, after crisis.

That’s The Big Picture

Keep that in mind while stocks throw a little temper tantrum here. Because, in doing so, you’ll realize that what you should be doing amid this market meltdown is simply focusing on the long-term technological trends reshaping our world.

I’m talking artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, digital advertising and shopping, robotics, and more. Those trends are not going to be derailed, stopped, or even slowed all that much by what’s going on in the market today.

Just like computers weren’t stopped by Black Monday. Just like the internet wasn’t stopped by the dot-com crash. Just like cloud computing wasn’t stopped by the financial crisis.

Ultimately, world-changing trends always end up changing the world – regardless of what happens in the near term. All that is really a long-winded way of saying that the best investment strategy at the current moment is to ignore the noise and focus on the long-term megatrends reshaping our lives. Today the best such megatrend is… the "Battery Gold Rush."

Batteries Are Everything These Days

When you sit back and really think about it, pretty much every technological megatrend out there requires batteries to power it. Electric vehicles? They run on lithium-ion batteries. Energy storage systems? They, too, run on batteries. Artificial intelligence? Built on software, which is run on computers, which are powered by… you guessed it… batteries.

What about smartphones? VR headsets? Charging stations? All those end markets need batteries, too. Morgan Stanley aptly summed it up in a research note just a few weeks back by saying:

“We need batteries. Literally everywhere.”

The world is about to embark upon a battery infrastructure spending boom over the next decade so that countries and companies can produce enough batteries to power these tech megatrends.
Batteries will be the epicenter of our tech-dominated future. Demand for them is going to increase at exponential rates in the 2020s.

But there is not an infinite supply of batteries. If anything, we have a supply shortage today. Therefore, there is going to be a battery spending boom over the next decade, wherein companies all along the battery manufacturing supply chain will make a lot of money.

It Will Be A Battery Gold Rush

The “holy grail” of the coming “Battery Gold Rush” will be a special type of battery that I like to call a forever battery. And it’s going to change the world as we know it. To understand why we need to take a quick trip back to chemistry class…

Batteries comprise three things: a cathode, an anode, and an electrolyte. Batteries work by promoting the flow of ions between the cathode and anode through the electrolyte:

Conventional lithium-ion batteries are built on liquid battery chemistry. That is, they comprise a solid cathode and anode, with a liquid electrolyte solution connecting the two. These batteries have worked wonders for years. But, due to the physical constraints of dealing with a liquid electrolyte, they are now reaching their limit in terms of energy cell density. This basically means that if we want our phones, watches, and electric cars to last longer and charge faster, we need a fundamentally different battery.

Insert The Solid-State Battery

With solid-state batteries, the name pretty much says it all. Take the liquid electrolyte solution in conventional batteries. Compress it into a solid. Create a small, hyper-compact solid battery that – because it has zero wasted space – lasts far longer and charges far faster.

The implications of solid-state battery chemistry are huge. Solid-state batteries could be the key to making our phones sustain power for days… enabling our smartwatches to fully charge in seconds… and, yes, allowing electric cars to drive for thousands of miles without needing to recharge.

That’s why insiders dub solid-state batteries “forever batteries ” — and it is why these 'forever batteries' are the holy grail of the Battery Gold Rush. Competitive advantages in the 2020s will be gained by companies using the best batteries. The better the battery, the better the performance of an electric vehicle, phone, energy storage system, and more.

Therefore, there won’t be any rush for old-school batteries built on old tech. But there will be an unprecedented mad dash for these solid-state batteries. Said differently, the Battery Gold Rush of the 2020s will be focused on solid-state batteries.

The Battery Gold Rush was always going to happen. But recent developments – specifically, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine unearthing the supply and price fragility of a fossil fuel energy system – have accelerated and enhanced it.

The Battery Gold Rush isn’t something that is going to happen in two, three or five years – it’s happening right now. And it will change the rules of the global economy over the next 12 months.

Think Hard Before Sending Any Of These Messages

After Brian Flores failed to land the head coaching job with the New York Giants this year, he sued the team and the National Football League, saying the Giants held a sham interview with him merely to comply with a league mandate requiring them to meet with a minority candidate.

Flores, who is Black and was born to Honduran immigrants, was head coach of the Miami Dolphins for three seasons before being fired in January 2022. He alleged that the Giants had no intention of hiring him, citing a text message he received from New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick congratulating him on getting the Giants gig — three days before Flores was set to interview.

Belichick allegedly told Flores in a later text that he had meant to send the first text to a different Brian — Buffalo Bills assistant Brian Daboll, who was hired Jan. 28. Both Brians had worked as assistant coaches for Belichick in New England. The Giants and the league have denied Flores’ claims.

You need not follow football or the ongoing litigation to grasp a couple of important takeaways: Make sure any texts you send are pointed to your intended recipient. Be equally cautious about what you put in those messages.

What Seems Private Might Not Stay Secure

Texts can be copied, screenshot, or shared, and depending on the messaging system, may lack encryption or other stringent measures to keep everything private. Moreover, the contents may be inappropriate or misconstrued.

So what should you never include in a text? The answers aren’t always simple.

“From an etiquette perspective, it really depends,” says author and etiquette authority Lizzie Post, the great-great-granddaughter of Emily Post and co-president of the Emily Post Institute. “To say, 'Never' for everything feels quite final, doesn’t it? And I am sure there are many different caveat situations out in the world.”

In no particular order, here are 13 things you should (almost) never put in a text, or at least consider before including them.

Would you want to read certain things in a message?

1. Don’t report a death.

This is especially true if the deceased is someone close to the recipient. A text is no substitute for delivering devastating news face to face or over the phone.

There are exceptions, of course. If the recipient and person who has died have a bit more distance, it might be OK to pass along the news in a text, perhaps with details about memorial services. Apply common sense and consider how you would feel getting such news via text.

2. Don’t end a relationship.

Breaking up with someone via text is harsh, cowardly, cold, and inconsiderate. The dreaded phrase “It’s not you, it’s me,” might come off even worse in a text.

“I do think for the most part breakups should be over the phone or in person, as best they can be,” Post says. “At the same time, letting someone you’ve been on two Tinder dates with know that you’re not going to see them again is perfectly fine.”

3. Don’t express unrequited feelings of love.

The flip side of No. 2. Don’t pour it on too thick, especially if your relationship is not exactly on solid ground.

4. Go easy on ALL CAPS.

Sorry, but YOU’RE SHOUTING AND IT’S RUDE! If you’re really that angry, perhaps you should calm down before sending texts of any kind.

5. Avoid sarcasm.

Beyond words, we usually can tell when people are being sarcastic in person by reading the expression on their faces and the tone of their voices.

Absent the social cues, conveying sarcasm, or, for that matter, irony, is a lot more difficult in a text, even with visual aids such as smiley faces, winks, and the colorful pictures and symbols known as emojis that are meant to help you impart a certain mood or idea. That old spelling tip about 'assume' applies.

6. Understand emojis.

Speaking of emojis, some may have a hidden meaning or slang. That eggplant emoji 🍆 probably isn't really referring to the garden vegetable, nor is the peach 🍑 just Georgia's favorite fruit. While we’re at it, this smiling swirl of brown 💩 isn't soft-serve chocolate ice cream.

Avoid embarrassment and search Google to decode the meanings of these and other emojis that are perhaps a bit spicier than what you have in mind. They're frequently not G-rated.

7. Be wary of abbreviations.

Most people know LOL as shorthand for “laughing out loud,” or “NP” for “no problem.” But TBH (to be honest), it could become a problem when you appear to be trying too hard, using abbreviations without much thought, or fully understanding their intent. If so, don’t be surprised to get a response with SMH (shaking my head) or worse, STFU, which you'll have to look up on your own.

8. Don’t write an opus.

No one wants to read War and Peace as a text. Keep the message concise, so it is not answered with a TL;DR (too long, didn’t read).

9. Watch typos.

“It” is different than “In,” and we all make mistakes texting on the fly. But if you’re communicating with an employer, client, or customer, take an extra second to read the message before hitting Send. You don’t want to leave a sloppy impression.

That said, given the generally casual nature of texting, the traditional rules of punctuation often don’t apply. You can find plenty of chatter on social media about how adding a period at the end of a sentence within a text may come across as off-putting or negative.

10. Don’t complain about your boss.

What did we tell you earlier about sending a text to the wrong person? If you value your job, assume your words can and will be used against you.

No texting ill of others, also true IRL (in real life)

11. Don’t spread gossip.

A reprise: What did we just mention in No. 10? Whomever you’re gossiping about may see it, too.

12. Leave out personal data.

Insecure texts should not include your birthdate, financial account numbers, passwords, Social Security number, and other personal details that crooks would be licking their chops to get at to spread malware or steal your identity.

13. Consider political ramifications.

You’re passionate about political issues and may justifiably attempt to persuade friends to join your cause.

Just keep in mind that your views could go viral. If you have second thoughts about having your opinions splattered across social media or published somewhere for all to see, avoid putting them in a text.

Meta’s Metamorphosis: Embrace or Stay Away?

Meta’s Metamorphosis: Embrace or Stay Away?

By Jason Bodner, EditorOutlier Insights

The Switch Is On

Facebook’s parent company, now known as Meta Platforms, is finally making the switch. On June 9, the social media player will officially ditch the FB ticker and instead start trading under META.

This is the final step of Meta’s rebranding, which it announced last October.

The move reflects the company’s aspirations in the metaverse realm… and the company has put money on the line to show how serious its plans are. Meta spent $10 billion on the metaverse last year – enough to drag down the company’s profits.

And the new name hasn’t done the company’s stock any favors yet… The social media giant’s stock has taken quite a hit since its all-time high in September 2021.

In fact, this February, FB shares fell 26% – the largest one-day drop in the company’s history – after Meta forecasted slower revenue growth and some revenue pain due to Apple’s latest privacy changes. It also noted that supply chain troubles and inflation were creating challenges for advertiser budgets.

And like the rest of the market, Meta has seen its stock punished among the overall market pullback we’ve been experiencing this year. The stock is down roughly 50% from its September peak.

Meta's Longtime COO Is Stepping Down

Adding further drama to the headlines, last week, news broke that the company’s longtime COO, Sheryl Sandberg, is stepping down… leaving big shoes to fill.

All of this may have some investors wondering whether Meta is stumbling… and could continue its precipitous drop.

Yet just like another FAANG stock – Netflix – the sea of bad headlines and declining share price shouldn’t have us writing off Meta too quickly…

Meta’s New Strategy

Meta is making a play for the metaverse. This is a collection of virtual worlds where people can interact, play games, hold business meetings, make transactions, socialize, own property, and more.

And whether or not we entirely understand it, it’s a big trend… and there’s plenty of money flowing into it. Depending on who you ask, estimates say the metaverse could annually generate anywhere from $800 billion by 2024 to $30 trillion by 2030.

So it almost seems natural for Meta to express interest in this new arena. The social media giant is hellbent on connecting the world.

And it’s hard to get more connected than a digital universe inhabited by people from across the planet.

As Mark Zuckerberg said when announcing the rebrand:

Today we are seen as a social media company, but in our DNA we are a company that builds technology to connect people – and the metaverse is the next frontier just like social networking was when we got started.

This shift hasn’t come out of left field either. Back in 2014, Meta bought Oculus VR for $2 billion. At the time, Oculus was arguably the largest virtual reality (VR) pioneer.

And in the time since its Quest 2 headset has garnered 78% of the augmented reality (AR)/VR market.

Meta is betting full force on this virtual experience augmenting real life – much like in the 2018 Steven Spielberg movie Ready Player One.

One day, we may all have an avatar with a different name, a different look, and even a different gender that we use in our favorite metaverse. And Meta’s VR headset will make this experience totally immersive. It’s becoming clearer that we are getting driven towards this future…

The Changing Of The Times

Just think about the way kids and younger generations are socializing now. They gather in chat groups and meet through video games, hanging out through these digital mediums.

They're not playing stickball on the block anymore. The world has simply and fundamentally changed.

This means Meta has a ready-made market for the metaverse as this trend develops.

And its previous experience has primed it for success… If anyone can figure out how to monetize goods and services in a virtual world, Meta can.

The Facebook platform alone has over 2.9 billion users across the world. And Meta’s Instagram and WhatsApp each have roughly 2 billion users.

That means it has ready access to a global audience for its metaverse.

Currently, 97% of all Meta’s revenue comes from its advertising segment, which enables its customers to serve ads to groups segmented by age, gender, location, interests, views, and more.

And even in Q1 this year, Meta’s ad revenue grew 6% year-over-year to $27 billion.

In other words, it has its model down to a T. It shouldn't have any issues monetizing the metaverse…

Meta Is Poised To Become An Even Bigger Empire

Meta bears looking at the price disruption, negative news cycle, and question mark around Meta’s future have it all wrong…

The company may be down right now, but in the future, this company is going to keep finding new ways to monetize the latest trends.

Meta has demonstrated a strong history of being able to see into the future. When Facebook first came out, many people didn’t see the point in it because there was already Myspace.

Yet Myspace is now a ghost town, while Facebook has grown into a hub of connectivity.

And Facebook still has strong fundamentals holding it up. Its one-year sales growth is over 37%. Its profit margin is 33%. And its debt/equity ratio is just 11.6%.

In simple terms, it has more than enough resilience to weather this storm.

And just like in the past, Meta’s stock will rebound from this dip and more than likely climb higher.

Twitter Needs to Come Clean

Twitter Needs to Come Clean

by Jeff Brown, editor, The Bleeding Edge

2022 - Elon Musk Started Sales For Twitter! Will Bitcoin and Ethereum Sell? - News Text Area

Something Doesn’t Smell Right

The dynamics of the negotiations between Twitter and Elon Musk, concerning Musk’s planned $44 billion acquisition, have not been as straightforward as expected. The deal that was announced on April 25 was a done deal, right?

Not… so… fast…

For weeks, Musk has been trying to understand from Twitter how many fake or spam accounts are actually on the platform. I’m just as curious.

In the past, Twitter has stated that these types of accounts represent less than 5% of all accounts. Yet Musk’s estimates are around 20% of all accounts.

Oddly, Twitter has failed to produce any credible proof that its own estimates are correct. Musk has threatened to terminate the deal if it doesn’t.

The media is suggesting that Musk is trying to back out of the deal. They’re wrong.

Musk knew in advance of the offer that the number of fake accounts was much higher, but he based his offer on Twitter’s public estimates. This was intentional. Had he not, it’s unlikely the offer would have been accepted by Twitter’s board.

The number of real daily and monthly active users (& user growth), and the average advertising revenue that they drive, are the key metrics that determine the valuation of a company like Twitter. If 20% of the accounts are fake, Twitter is materially less valuable than Twitter represented. That would be grounds for Musk to renegotiate on price.

There Is A Perverse Incentive Here

Twitter has always been motivated to use a methodology to underestimate the number of fake accounts on its platform. After all, the larger the perceived audience, the more advertisers are willing to pay to access Twitter’s data. And more users drive higher valuation, and thus a higher share price.

Given that Twitter has been less than transparent with its data and defensive in its positioning, it smells like Musk is on to something big.

The thing is, Musk will win no matter what happens.

If Twitter comes clean and opens up its data to Musk, the deal will be renegotiated at a lower valuation… Musk wins.

And if Twitter continues to refuse to share the data and to obfuscate this issue, Musk has the legal grounds to walk away from the deal. That way, he’s not overpaying for Twitter.

And I seriously doubt that Twitter would prevail in receiving the $1 billion breakup fee… Again, Musk wins.

A Breakup Would Be Bad For Twitter

The severity of its problems with fake and spam accounts would be front and center in the argument. More studies would be run to reveal the severity of the problem. In fact, the attorney general of Texas just launched an investigation into Twitter into exactly this problem.

Twitter needs to come clean, and it needs to get the deal done. It wouldn’t be treated well by the free markets if the deal fell through.

And we need it to go through. These negotiations with Twitter have revealed how badly Twitter needs to be cleaned up.

Not only does it need to discontinue its business practices of censorship, banning of real accounts, suppressing healthy debate, and manipulating information; it needs to get rid of these fake accounts that have been allowed to proliferate on the platform.

It has been fascinating to watch these negotiation dynamics play out in real-time, and that wouldn’t have been possible without Twitter.

What Has The World Health Organization Been Up To Lately? WHO Knows Best??

What Has The World Health Organization Been Up To Lately?
WHO Knows Best??

There is so much happening in our GOD-given world, and many are distractions to keep us occupied for many reasons. One reason could be that proposals and treaties were being discussed and perhaps even approved by the globalist few without our knowledge or consent.

Last week, from May 22 to May 28, 2022, the WHO (World Health Organization) held its 75th annual assembly in Geneva. In this assembly, one of the things on the agenda is a proposal for amendments to the international health regulations. Titled –

You can also find the Proposal for Amendments document on the World Health Organization’s website under A75/18.pdf. All excerpts in this article are from this document. Strengthening WHO preparedness for and response to health emergencies. Proposal for amendments to the International Health Regulations (2005)

The results of this proposal will directly impact our lives, especially with what we’ve been through over the past two years. The United States proposed the amendment in January of 2022, and in this article, we’ll briefly interpret the sections in the amendment.

The regulations are not new, but the amendment reinforces some key elements. Some are crucial in what many people think and interpret as a very aggressive chunk into our civil rights and dangerous to our democracies.

Article 5 refers to surveillance and is a requirement for each country to develop its ability to identify, evaluate, inform, and report events according to the regulations within five years.

In layman's terms, besides monitoring medical information, they're asking countries to develop a system that monitors and reports data from airports, border crossings, and water and food infrastructure directly to the WHO surveillance team.

This system should be able to surveil containers, suitcases, and equipment and isolate potential suspects in spreading disease. They also say that countries that cannot create this infrastructure for surveillance will be able to get assistance in funding.

Article 6: Notification. This section discusses the requirements for countries to notify the world about an event and its source, requiring all information to be routed through the WHO. It also lists organizations that must report to the WHO and requests genetic sequence data reports.

Article 9: Other Reports. This section is one of the important ones, and I'll come back to it later when explaining the system they're implementing here. This section says that the WHO will no longer depend on the country itself to verify the occurrence of an event in its territory, and it can rely on other sources from other places.

It’s basically saying that it can declare an event even if the country itself denies it or contradicts the information if the WHO claims to have other sources of information. It also retains the right to maintain the confidentiality of the source so that it can declare an event in any member country without the country's consent and without revealing the source of information.

Article 10: Verification. This section is also curious about the language's meaning, where they move the language, and the tone to one of a threat, a motif that keeps reoccurring throughout this amendment. This is about the response time of the country once an event or even a suspicion of one is declared either by the country itself or by the WHO.

The country is requested to give an initial reply or acknowledgment within 24 hours and to provide initial information. The WHO will issue recommendations that may include an offer to mobilize international assistance. This means the people from the WHO may descend on the country and act. What is their status legally? What is their Authority? It’s unclear.

After 48 hours from the initial offer to collaborate with the WHO, if the country fails to respond or collaborate, the WHO shall (and that's a new term) immediately share with other member states the information available to it while encouraging the affected state to accept the offer of collaboration with the WHO.

This is where they're crossing into the threat area, and the language being used is typical of organized crime. It seems like a message with a “cooperate, or else” tone.

Article 11: Provision of information by the WHO. This section is a direct continuation of the previous article, keeping the right to share information about the country suspected of having an event with other countries and parties. Any information can now be shared without consent, including medical cargo flights, passengers, the flow of commodities, etc.

Article 12: The Determination of the public health emergency of international concern. It also adds public health, emergency of regional concern, or intermediate health alert to the title.

This title is a long one and probably the most significant red flag in this entire Amendment. It is about who can declare an emergency event or suspicion of one, and it is just one person. That one person, in this case, is the Director-General of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

He can determine that a potential or an actual public health emergency of international concern is occurring. Take note of the word, potential used – it’s vague language. So the fate of an entire country is in his hands; just one person can shut down an entire country with a nod of his head. Of course, it says, he will consult with the emergency committee and relevant State parties, but that is just to keep the appearance of a democratic process. When in fact, he has all the power to do that by himself.

Article 13: Public health response. Again, the WHO is offering assistance to any state party in the case of an event, giving only a short time of 48 hours to respond. In case of a rejection, the information will be passed on to other state parties. The WHO can immediately send the team, and in the event of a denial, the state party must provide its rationale for the denial or rejection.

Article 15: Temporary recommendations. This is more about the deployment of expert teams by the WHO. These teams will have access to basically everything; every site, border crossing, harbors, and data.

Article18 is about traveling and travel restrictions. It underlines the free passage to health personnel and equipment, exempting themselves from any restrictions and giving themselves a free pass to go everywhere with no interference.

Articles 48 and 49 are about the one-man show named Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. He will pick the committee members, the duration of their service, pretty much everything. The committee, according to this, is nothing more than a rubber stamp and only gives the appearance of due process when in reality, he decides everything.

Here we have a new chapter – Chapter 4: The Compliance Committee. Each member state that signs this amendment must establish a compliance committee, which would monitor the level of compliance in the state and report to the WHO.

It has the right to give the WHO any information regarding the level of compliance, which could include information about vaccinations or any data that measures how much and to what extent the country's people are following the rules and orders of the WHO.

It states the compliance committee shall strive to make its recommendations based on
consensus. This section looks, sounds, and feels like a page from George Orwell’s book, 1984! This is the world they are preparing for us.

Article 59: Entry into force; period for rejection or reservations. Last but not least, Article 59 says that any state party has only six months for rejection or reservation. Usually, this period is set for two years, but not in this case.

In Summary

So to reiterate all of the above, countries that are members of the WHO are being asked to vote, to hand over their sovereignty to an unelected entity consisting mainly of one person, maybe two, who can decide to declare that there is a health emergency or even a suspicion of one in their territory.

The WHO can then threaten to share all information with other countries if they do not get full cooperation and compliance. For example, if that country's authorities do not agree with the WHO assessment or recommendations, they can send teams to the most sensitive places in your country. They can monitor food and water distribution, inspect the equipment and shipments and perform any test they see fit.

They can shut down airports and harbors, stop the country's economy, and hold its fate and citizens in their hands. All they need to do is to declare an event. Every aspect of your life will be in the hands of a small group of people that was not elected in any democratic process.

This type of power that is so concentrated and centralized with such a small group of people is unprecedented and extremely dangerous to what we thought was a free world, particularly in western civilization.

The technique they use is sophisticated. Firstly, the language keeps it as vague and opaque as possible. What is an event? What is a suspicion of an event? What are the criteria?

Every aspect of this amendment says one thing, one person will decide. Based on “the WHO knows best,” he will determine the definition of an event. That way, nobody can blame him or the WHO for not following an exact rule and also keeping all the definitions to themselves.

In 2009, the WHO redefined the term pandemic to suit their needs making it easier to declare it. But the true genius in what and how they're doing it is in a false notion that countries have a choice. Even when they are taking your freedom, they have to maintain a false sense of democracy, as these NGOs know they have no true powers over a country that prides itself as free and democratic.

Nobody elected them, and of course, they cannot just declare that they are, in fact, in power, and establish a dictatorship like in China, because the collective minds of citizens in the western world are that of freedom, or so they've been told. If they declare anything that contradicts that, people will rise and resist.

So they need to act more subtly. First, by using fear, anxiety, and constant state of emergency and panic. People living in fear for their lives will be consumed by that and enter into a compliance state. Using the ultimate fear, the fear of death is the perfect leverage. As long as people are in a state of fear, those in power can demand and get anything they want.

We have seen it in the covid years from the numbers of death attributed to the virus, which was later found to be massively exaggerated. Through to nothing less than crimes and lies surrounding the vaccine that turns out not to be nearly as effective as they claimed, not safe, and not relevant for most people.

As far as the country itself is concerned, they just need to threaten the government. Threaten to take it all away, to close everything. Like a mobster that enters your business, that in a polite voice tells you that you “better play nice or else.” It is extortion, and it’s s clear as day.

This whole Amendment, everything that preceded it, and everything that will follow all come down to one thing. Like the Godfather stated, “I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse.” They are making us an offer we can't refuse. Why?

Let’s Pretend…

Let's go into the state of mind of a prime minister or a country's president, and let's just assume that they are honest and not corrupt. Let's assume you lead the country that is probably already in debt to the World Bank. You are dependent on commerce, and business with other countries, and your whole infrastructure, economy, and security depend on your connection with other countries.

Then one day, according to the WHO, there is an event in your country, some kind of an outbreak. And let's say that no such thing is happening according to your knowledge and investigation. The WHO, which is basically one man, the Director-General, backed by Bill Gates and all the people and entities behind them, tells you that you have 48 hours to decide if you will follow their recommendations—also notifying you that they're sending teams to your country.

Let's say you try to resist. You disagree, and you do not follow the advice. According to WHO’s document, they can now share this information with other countries. What does it mean? They can warn them that you are a threat and dangerous and that no traffic of either people or commodities should occur in and from your country.

In effect, you are isolating your country from the rest of the world and bringing everything to a halt. Would you take that risk if you were the leader of that country? Of course not. You’d never get elected again! (Remember, you’re honest and not corrupt. One of the very few, if any.)

When South Africa signaled Pfizer that they wanted to stop buying vaccines, there was a declaration about a virus mutation called Omicron, which they immediately announced came from, you guessed it, South Africa. The mentality of what they're creating is a herd mentality that no individual, country, or person can leave; the perfect mechanism.

This is the same mechanism they used with the vaccinations, only in that case, instead of a country, it was the individual. The authorities did not physically coerce people into getting the shots; instead, they were threatened they’d lose their jobs, livelihood, and freedom to travel and attend school. There were fired or dismissed.

They had their name smeared by the media, calling them anti-vaxxers, and were blamed for everything. That's why so many agreed to get the shots, not for health reasons but for fear of losing everything.

Ironically, their fear of losing their freedoms caused them to lose their freedoms on a much bigger scale. And that is precisely what this WHO amendment is all about; the same mechanism and covid-19 is just phase one.

So why is it happening? It's just another brick in the wall of what has occurred over the last couple of years and started long ago. A small, rich, and influential group of people, who actually own most, if not almost, all the commerce in the world, are using these bodies, like the UN and the WEF led by Klaus Schwab, who wants to shape the future. In his own words, “to globalize the world,” he is also not elected by anyone.

And by the WHO is being used to create this control over countries and people and maintains a state of medical emergency as an excuse to take more freedoms and civil rights away and give governments and corporations more power.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) and their almost insane vision of the world of top-down control. Transhumanism, loss of privacy, total control over the exchange of money, digital passport, social ranking systems, collapsing the middle class, relying on a fixed income provided by them that will be only be given with the demand to agree to any terms they dish out. These are different branches of the same tree, and behind it, all is a group of very wealthy and powerful people who have a plan.

The current world population of 7.3 billion people who seek freedoms and rights is something that scares them deeply. (And expected to reach 8.5 billion by 2030) They cannot afford anything but complete control over our lives, and the use of technology is one of the ways to implement that. As we've seen throughout the past two years, they used covid as an opportunity, as an excuse to escalate their plans.

The sheer amount of lies, corruption, and nothing less than crimes against humanity, as far as false information, the vaccines, the way they ignore all vaccine injuries and death. Labeling people who are not playing ball and resisting their agenda as ‘anti-vaxxers’ or “corona deniers” looks like a playbook from every dictator’s manual.

Bill Gates’ foundation and his Gavi initiative are one of their tools and the biggest donor to the WHO. His foundation is behind every action being taken by the WHO. Gates made billions from investing in covid tests, and he has holdings in what are deemed very unhealthy corporations, such as  McDonald's and Coca-Cola.

Here’s a snippet of the TED Talk Bill Gates presented in 2010 on the topic of climate issues, CO2, vaccines, and how they plan to slow population growth. He also talks relentlessly about the next plague or disease, which always miraculously shows up immediately after his predictions. He is currently creating a “GERM team.” More control, more fear, and more power.

Additionally, The world population of 500 million is blatantly displayed and first on the list etched into the monument of the Georgia Guidestones. It seems that it may be all part of the elites’ Agenda 21/30

Final Results Of The Assembly (for now)

The United States Biden Administration put forward the information about the proposal above. Although some amendments were approved, some smaller nations took the time to read the proposal and saw it was questionable, so the WHO could not pass the amendments the United States submitted at this stage.

We can consider it a battle won, but not the war. An international health regulations working group was organized, encouraging all nations to submit their amendments by September 20th, to be considered in November, and to be presented before January 2023 for consideration next May at the Assembly.

Investigative journalist James Roguski took a deep dive into the conference analyzing the complete live stream over the five days and reporting the results. The video below explains further, and full coverage is on his website LeaveTheWHO.com.

What Can We Do?

So what can we do? Well, these people get the power from us, pure and simple. As long as we keep playing their game, which is based on “divide and conquer,” they will keep doing whatever they want. But we need to remember without our money, our consumption of what they want us to consume, without our silence, and without our obedience, they have nothing.

New world order is necessary, not the one they're planning, but a world that puts the people first. This 1% of wealthy and powerful people will stop at nothing. They own the media (MSM), entertainment industry, most social media platforms, and information and search engine platforms.

They are censoring anything that contradicts their wishes and agendas, and that is how they think they control the message and are hell-bent on creating the reality they want. This 1% may own significant corporations and the online media giants that have the monopoly for the time being, but they don’t own Markethive

Markethive is the only social media, marketing, and broadcasting platform underpinned by Blockchain technology that is sovereign, built by the people, and for the people. It stands for freedom and liberty with a non-partisan approach, so you’ll never be surveilled or canceled for expressing yourself, thoughts and beliefs.

It’s the perfect way to get your message out to countless other platforms with the technology to help you “fly under the radar,” so to speak. By sharing any information and raising the issues like the one being told here to the surface, we can counteract their power in attempting to create a sick and dependent society and dystopian reality.

The only way to defeat their plot is by creating a united world of people who are aware of what's being done and ensuring that people en masse are aware of these crimes and this shadow dictatorship that each day with each play is increasingly coming out of the shadows.

A united world and the flow of information are their biggest threat. Don't underestimate these so-called overlords or think they care about humanity. But be aware of your personal power and as a collective. Remember, fear is their weapon, and ours is love and unity, and our strength is in numbers and solidarity. You're not alone.

Police State in Slo-Mo

Police State in Slo-Mo

by Jeff Thomas, International Man Communique

For many years, I’ve forecasted that the US will evolve into a police state; that it will begin slowly; then as more and more freedoms are removed, the creation of the police state will accelerate.

We’re now seeing that acceleration, as more and more Americans are detained, questioned, and having their property confiscated than ever before.

As an example, in 2016, some 20,000 travelers in and out of the US were stopped, often at random. Typically, their baggage was searched, their documents photocopied, access codes to their electronic devices demanded and their files copied. In most cases, no explanation was given, but they were advised that if the search was refused, they would be detained indefinitely.

The following year, in 2017, the number of people detained rose by 50%, to 30,000.

It’s important to note that the travelers were not threatened with arrest, which suggests that the authorities were working on the basis that the Patriot Act of 2001 allows all of the above activities—without cause being given, without a warrant being obtained, without access to a phone call or legal representation being allowed, and that the individuals in question may be detained, indefinitely.

This, of course, is in direct violation of the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution, which states that people have the right "to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures."

However, they are particularly vulnerable when they travel, so the travelers in question are extremely unlikely to refuse. They understand that "indefinitely" means, "until a Supreme Court ruling is passed, overturning the Patriot Act as unconstitutional." If it hasn’t happened yet and isn’t under consideration, it’s safe to say that the level of police state allowed under the Patriot Act is permanent.

Police States have been implemented countless times throughout history. They tend to be most prominent where collectivism has already been instituted.

Wherever collectivism is already firmly established, new crackdowns are generally introduced suddenly. In Germany, in 1938, under existing Nazi rule, Kristallnacht took people by complete surprise. Later, in 1961, under existing Soviet rule, the Berlin Wall went up with no previous announcement. In both cases, the collectivist tyranny was already in place and the people had already successfully been subjugated. These events were merely further losses of freedom.

But what of a country that still enjoys a few of its former freedoms and is in the process of being transformed into a full-blown collectivist state? Well, in such cases, the loss of freedoms is often done in slo-mo.

Another way of describing this is the old adage of boiling a frog. Since a frog will jump out of a pot of hot water, place him in a pot of lukewarm water and slowly turn up the heat. Before he knows it, he’s being boiled to death.

At present, a majority of Americans appear to now understand that they’ve experienced a significant loss of their "guaranteed" freedoms. They’re now worried and, at each new stage of oppression they tend to say, "I’m not happy about this, but I can probably live with it… and, besides, they say that they’re doing it for my own safety."

Likewise, when the intention is to convert a country to collectivism, make the early changes in stages. Get the people to accept that the losses of freedom are for the benefit of their safety. Then, the further along you go, the more you can accelerate the process.

However, I think that it’s safe to say that a family returning from a holiday that’s just been isolated from each other, interrogated separately, frisked, had all their belongings pored through and copies of their papers and electronic files taken, without even being told the reason, does not feel as though it’s been done for their safety.

Remember, the 30,000 above were just hoping to reach their destination with no trouble from anyone. A generation ago, they never would have tolerated such a violation of their rights. But now, they submit and accept whatever they’re told to do.

But, upon release, they most likely assumed that the authorities had been looking for something specific. They were not. In recent years, there have been very few actual prosecutions from such Gestapo-like shakedowns, in spite of the copying of documents and confiscation of minor items. The object here is not to prosecute anyone; it is to teach people to submit.

This will be important later on.

What we’re witnessing is a loss of freedom in slo-mo. Just as Germans stood by and accepted Kristallnacht; just as they stood by and watched the Berlin Wall be built that would close off their freedom of migration, the great majority of Americans ultimately will stand by and watch the last of their freedoms be removed, because they’ve already been trained to submit to whatever indignities and restrictions are placed upon them.

After World War II, Lutheran Pastor Martin Niemöller was questioned as to how he and other Germans could possibly have simply stood by and watched as freedoms were removed, resulting eventually in total domination of the German people. He said,

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Pastor Niemöller was able to make the above statement in 1976, as he was one of the few survivors of the concentration camps.

But, in addition to the above insight, there’s another very significant lesson to be learned here. Historically, whenever a government is instituting the transition into a collectivist state, one of the early warnings is a limitation on travel outside the country (getting the people used to the idea that they don’t have a right to leave). The US has now reached that point. The next development will be to teach them that, by traveling outside of the country, they are automatically suspect. The implication will be money laundering, drug trafficking, or terrorist activities.

Whether it’s accomplished through the use of a physical barrier, such as a wall, or through the intimidation of random searches and interrogations, as is presently underway in the US, or whether it’s simply the appearance of armed guards in ports of exit (like the armed guard in the photo above), the objective is not to obtain copies of your emails to your friends or to go through socks in your luggage. It’s to teach you that your rights have been lost and you are expected to submit to any and all indignities and restrictions imposed on you.

Historically, the end-product is always the same. The final acceptance that you’ve waited too long to leave the increasingly oppressive country—and that you’ve been successfully locked in.

9 Mistakes You Should Avoid Making With Your iPhone at All Costs

9 Mistakes You Should Avoid Making With Your iPhone at All Costs

by The Useful Tech, contributor, Medium Daily Digest

Increase the longevity of your iPhone by not doing these things

Increase the longevity of your iPhone by not doing these things

Apple’s iPhone is unarguably one of the best smartphones in the market today. The phone is excellent at many things out of the box, like having an incredible camera, extraordinary battery life, fantastic performance, and more.

However, your iPhone could significantly get less impressive with time if you are not using it the right way and making a lot of mistakes with it.

So, in this post, we will discuss some of the common mistakes people make with their iPhones and why you should avoid making them.

1) Charging it overnight or charging till 100%

One of the most common mistakes most iPhone users make, especially during the initial few months of buying the device, is always charging it to 100% or leaving it on charge overnight, even after the phone is fully charged.

Unfortunately, some people also go to the other extreme and only ever charge their phone if it has dropped to 0%.

While neither of these things will have an immediate adverse effect on your iPhone’s battery, you might start to see the impact on your battery life and capacity over time.

To avoid this, either use a wireless charger to charge your iPhone overnight or a smart plug that is automatically scheduled to turn off at a particular time during the night.

Many experts also recommend that following the 20–80 charge cycle is a great way to ensure your iPhone battery’s lifespan is considerably increased.

This means that you should try to charge your iPhone when it falls below 20% and only tries to charge it to 80% instead of all the way. Of course, this is not possible in all the scenarios, but when you have a charging point within your reach, it would be best to follow this method.

If you find it hard to follow this charging method manually, then you can create an automation from the Shortcuts app on your iPhone to notify you when your phone’s battery drops below or goes above a certain level.

2) Closing apps from the app switcher

Many iPhone users think that closing the apps in the app switcher throughout the day helps to improve the performance and the battery life of your iPhone. Well, the reality couldn’t be further from the truth.

The primary intention of the app switcher is to help you conveniently and quickly switch between recently used apps instead of having to open them from the home screen every time.

Closing them frequently and then opening them again will make your iPhone work harder than it has to and negatively impact the battery life.

So, as long as an app is not responding or working correctly, there is no reason to close the app from the app switcher. iOS is already intelligent enough to automatically suspend the apps you haven’t used in a while to ensure that the recently opened apps have enough memory to function without any issues.

3) Having an untidy charging port

Unless your primary way of charging your iPhone is by using a wireless charger, it is essential to ensure that your iPhone’s lightning port is clean and free of any dust particles or debris.

An unclean charging port might either affect the charging speeds of your iPhone or, worse, might completely prevent it from charging.

Even if you use your iPhone with a protective case and handle it with extreme care, it is inevitably bound to collect dust particles over the years.

Therefore, it is highly recommended that you occasionally check and clean the charging port to ensure the longevity of your iPhone.

The most recommended method for cleaning the charging port on your iPhone is by using a toothpick.

Use the sharp end of the toothpick to gently scrub out any dust or debris from the charging port and make sure to not apply too much force as it might potentially damage the internals of your iPhone, even though it is pretty unlikely that it would cause any serious issues.

4) Not restarting it often

Many tech consultants and experts recommend most smartphone users at least restart their device once every week.

But, unfortunately, some users probably won’t even remember when was the last time their iPhone was not turned on and would only ever restart it if it runs out of battery and dies.

Restarting your iPhone regularly has many benefits, like clearing open apps from the RAM, fixing any memory leak issues, and stopping any processes or apps that might have been affecting your iPhone’s battery life.

5) Ignoring software, security, or app updates for too long

I can’t even believe that I include this in this list. Still, sadly, a significant number of iPhone users tend to ignore important system or security updates or even app updates longer than they should.

I have personally seen some of my colleagues and friends who just pretend that the system update notification ticker doesn’t exist in the Settings app on their iPhone, either because they can’t be bothered to do the update or they simply don’t have the time.

Ignoring critical software and security updates might not seem like a bad thing or something that affects you in any way.

But if you don’t install updates even after they have been publicly available for a long time, you are potentially opening up your iPhone to any malicious attacks and threats targeted towards iPhones with older software or app versions that are still vulnerable to these attacks.

So, try to spend a few minutes downloading and installing the update every time you get a notification that new software or a security update is available for your iPhone.

Also, make sure to regularly check the App Store to find if any latest updates are available for the apps on your iPhone and install them as well.

6) Installing unverified apps

The App Store on your iPhone has millions of apps and games, adding new ones every day.

Unfortunately, despite Apple’s stringent guidelines and careful analysis, some malicious apps make their way into the App Store every now and then.

So, it falls upon the user to ensure that whatever app they install on their iPhone is genuine and harmless.

One way to ensure this is by checking the reviews and the ratings for the app and making sure the app is really what it claims to be.

However, reviews could also be misleading sometimes, so a few other ways to verify the authenticity of an app before installing it on your iPhone are checking the permissions requested by the app, checking when the app was last updated, looking for the number of downloads and so on.

Ideally, you could consider avoiding installing any app you are not entirely sure is genuine or does not meet the above requirements.

7) Not properly configuring the Find my feature

Find my is one of the most valuable features on your iPhone and is also the one that you hope you never have to use.

However, most users don’t realize the importance of properly configuring the Find my feature on their iPhones until it is too late.

To make sure all the settings for the Find my feature on your iPhone are set up correctly, open the Settings app, click on your name at the top, open Find My and then make sure all three options in the Find My iPhone section are enabled including the send last location option.

Source: Author’s Screenshot

Also, enable the Share my location option on the main page as well. With iOS 15, Apple also added the option to find your iPhone even when it is turned off, so not having the Find My feature correctly configured would be one of the biggest mistakes you could make regarding your iPhone.

8) Not taking regular backups

Many of us have some of our most valuable data stored on our phones, including anything from important messages, photos, and videos to work or personal notes, documents, etc.

Unfortunately, this makes our phones a single point of failure, and if anything were to happen to them, it would be a critical loss for many of us.

Luckily, cloud backups and local backups are a thing, and you must regularly back up whatever you think is important on your iPhone, at least once every month.

Since you have an iPhone, most of your data like messages, photos, videos, and documents could be easily backed up to iCloud.

Source: Author’s Screenshot

Just go to the Settings app, click on your name at the top, open iCloud settings and make sure you have enough free space to backup all your essential data.

However, since Apple only provides 5GB of free iCloud storage, which is next to nothing, you might have to purchase additional storage according to your needs.

If you want to keep a local backup of all the data on your iPhone, you can connect your iPhone to your Mac or Windows PC using the lighting cable and then use iTunes or any other smartphone backup software to take a complete backup of your iPhone, at least once every month.

9) Not uninstalling unused apps or games

Even I was guilty of making this mistake until recently when I discovered the offload unused apps option in the App Store settings on my iPhone.

Most of us randomly download and install many apps and games on our iPhones which we maybe use once or twice, and then forget that they even exist.

Source: Author’s Screenshot

While a lot of these apps do not consume a significant amount of your storage, you should still seriously consider uninstalling any apps you are not using because apart from occupying space on your iPhone, some of these apps can also silently track your location or activity in the background and send it to anonymous servers or simply might just affect your iPhone’s battery life.

If you find it hard to keep track and uninstall any apps or games you haven’t used in a while, simply enable the Offload Unused Apps option in the App Store settings page on your iPhone. Your iPhone will automatically do this for you.
