T<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:18px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">he JWST is <strong>the most complex telescope ever constructed.<\/strong> What&rsquo;s more, it was launched to a destination about one million miles from Earth&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/click.e.brownstoneresearch.com\/?qs=bdcc7b5d8f1be0c578caf7588ecb2c2121a524821170c1b80e2aa62c43c59e4432bb139fde56481a5530a90437884f541e98c52a0e5441661e24e6ef64d2b821\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color:#2980b9\">back in February<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color:#000000\">.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:18px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">We call its <strong>destination the LaGrange Point 2 (L2)<\/strong>. It&rsquo;s on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun. That makes it incredibly cold, which is great for the telescope&rsquo;s performance.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:18px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">JWST is currently going through the calibration process. We expect the first fully calibrated images to come back as early as July.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:18px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">That said, JWST has sent a few images back already. They aren&rsquo;t as advanced as what we will get once the telescope is fully calibrated. We can see the string of four objects from the lower left to the upper right of the image. The only difference is that different telescopes took them over the last two decades.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:18px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">We are looking at images of the <strong>Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC).<\/strong> It&rsquo;s a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:18px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">And get this &ndash; LMC is about 160,000 light-years away from Earth.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:18px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">The image on the left is from the <strong>WISE telescope back in 2003<\/strong>. The one in the middle is from <strong>Spitzer in 2008<\/strong>. And on the right is <strong>an image just sent back by the JWST.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:18px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">We can see just how advanced the JWST is when compared to previous telescopes. The difference in resolution is dramatic.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:18px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">JWST&rsquo;s images are only going to get clearer with even higher resolution.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align:justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-size:22px\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">Here&rsquo;s the most exciting part&hellip;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:18px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">NASA hasn&rsquo;t yet told us what the JWST&rsquo;s first scientific target will be. It has been very secretive about what the telescope will focus on first.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:18px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">So we can look forward to more information from NASA within the next month or two.
